I remember when i met Jenny the first time on Fitzroy Island. There was a nest of Baby Sea Turtles that needed to be saved. From then on we made plans. Together with Co-Founder Paul Barnes and the owner of Fitzroy Island Resort we decided to build a new Turtle Hospital with an education centre.
The amount of hoops we had to jump through made the project almost unrealistic. But we many helping hands, enormous support from the public, from corporates and other organisations we raised the funds we needed and managed to get through all the permits. At the time we had a large increase in Turtle standings and the extra space was desperately needed. In 2015 Jenny and myself where nominated for the Pride of Australia Medal, which was an honour by itself.
We never did this for recognition. But in the end of the days, we are not only trying to save Turtles, we are trying to create a change in people, to respect our Oceans and our Wildlife. To win this medal and getting awarded, hopefully does inspire other people to step up and work actively to better our environment.
